Management of allergic disease for schools
The Children’s Allergy Service at GSTT will be providing a new education session for primary and secondary schools. Those attending the session will gain an understanding of allergic disease, in particular how this may affect the child when they are at schooland how they can manage allergic reactions. Through practical “hands on” sessions those attending will learn how to administer lifesaving treatment, such as asthma inhalers and adrenaline auto injector devices.
The training will allow one or two staff members per school to attend at any one of the 3 sessions being offered during the school year. The first session will take place on:
25th January 2016 from 9:00 – 13:00 at Gracefield Gardens Health and Social Care Centre

Note: A maximum of 25 staff will attend each session.

The provisional timetable is outlined below.
9:30am: Allergic disease
Outcome: Basic introduction to asthma, eczema, hay fever and food allergy. What is the most common treatment for these illnesses, what treatment might
the child need at school.
10:30am: Management of an allergic reaction
Signs to look out for when a child is having an allergic reaction or exacerbation of their allergic disease.
Asthma inhalers: Practical sessiondemonstrating and practicing using different inhalers
Eczema creams: Practical sessiondemonstrating how to apply eczema creams
Adrenaline devices: Practical session demonstrating and practicing how to use an adrenaline device
